Cross-border Initiative Office of Extremadura publishes a book about Potuguese cinema

The Cross-border Initiative Office of the Regional Autonomous Government of Extremadura has added a new title to its collection created in order to spread Portuguese culture among adult population in Extremadura. General Scene of the Portuguese Cinema is the title of this book written by Angélica García Manso (Cáceres, Spain 1981), doctor of Art’s History at Universidad de Extremadura, who defended the first thesis about Portuguese cinema in Spain and published a monograph about the Portuguese director João César Monteiro.

This is the third book of this collection edited by the Cross border Initiative Office, after having published History of the Portuguese Painting (1800-1940) and Brief History of Portugal. This collection was created to spread among adult population, especially those learning Portuguese language, the culture of neighbour country.

1st Workshop - 18th-19th novembre 2010

Fundação Eugénio de Almeida organized the first workshop of SCULTBORD Project, in Évora, 18th and 19th november 2010. The workshop had 19 participants from Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Romenia, Greece, Portugal and Spain.

Representants of all the partners have joined to debate how can heritage and cultural issues can contribute for social cohesion of border territories, this was the goal of the event. The long life learning experiences programme in this fields has also been theme of the discussion. Subprogramme Grundtvig action included workshops that brought together individuals or small groups of learners (10-20 people) from several countries for their personal development and learning needs. Learners were also encouraged to share their competences and insights with others.

This workshop started with a visit to “Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC)” in Badajoz, Spain. MEIAC is situated on the area of the former prison of Badajoz, which was constructed in the middle fifties in the place of a former military fortification, called Fuerte de Pardaleras, and built in the 17th century. In spite of the fact that it had been completely demolished before the prison was built, the fortification was located in a very strategic position, and constituted one of the most important defensive emplacements of the Vauban fort system that surrounded the city.


After lunch, the participants visited “Espaço do Tempo” in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal. “Espaço do Tempo” is a cultural organization promoted by the internacional choreographer and cultural manager Rui Horta. Espaço do Tempo it’s a trans-disciplinary arts organization that supports various Portuguese and foreign contemporary performing artists. Its headquarters is located in a convent, the Convento da Saudação (Salutation’s Convent), a national monastery from the 15th century based in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal.


In the second day the workshop was promoted by António Camões Gouveia, Evora Museum Director, who has a Degree in History, Post-Graduate Studies in Cultural and Political History and he is Doctorate in History and Theory of Ideas, expert in the History of Social Ideas, from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Rui Horta choreographer and cultural manager, artistic director of “Espaço do Tempo” in Montemor-o-Novo.


In the afternoon the group visits the Evora Museum, and the new heritage projects of the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, Cultural and Art Centre and Eugenio de Almeida’s House Museum.

Our first workshop


Fundação Eugénio de Almeida (Évora, Portugal), organized the first of our workshops. Participants from Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Romenia, Greece, Portugal, Spain and the AEBR (Association of European Border Regions) during the sessions held on 19th November 2010 in Évora.
